Taking it to the Next Step - Breakthrough Leadership Development

Situation

A family run business with $150 million in revenue was facing a crisis - the company had grown to the point where professional management was being considered.  The founder’s son and current president were looking for a successor and until this time, they had been solely run by family members.  Though recognizing that there were many roadblocks, most of the family members agreed to bring in a professional manager to lead the business. Sibling rivalry, a matriarch resistant to change and brothers who weren’t performing were just some of the issues facing the family and the business.  The emotional challenges were mounting as problems of trust, succession and continuity were continuing to plague the family.

In an attempt to hire a successor, candidates came and went. Most were qualified, but a decision could not be reached - this went on for almost two years.

Solution

Bringing a unique understanding of family business dynamics, The Lennick Aberman Group facilitated family meetings and conducted workshops with family and non-family members of the business.  One of the many goals was to understand and help define the family and business values. The family began to examine whether their actions and behaviors were in alignment with their goals.

Where not aligned, Lennick Aberman assisted with family discussions concerning the future of the business along with helping to create a new action plan.  LAG helped empower the family through these discussions and exercises.

Eventually the family was able to move forward to meet the demands of their growing business, while remaining intact as a more unified family.   Within a few months a new non-family president was hired.
